What to do When Your Past stops Your Present.

What to do When Your Past stops Your Present.

When I first read this question I said OH my goodness!!the past is the past and shall forever remain the past. Then I thought about it.

There are always lessons to be learnt from it when it re-surfaces and they need to be moved through quickly and efficiently for the past IS gone! For me dwelling on the past is self indulgent. whether it is you or someone else who brings it up. We don’t need to be there unless there is something we haven’t moved on from yet. If you have dealt with the past it just won’t come back unless you want to go there. Then it will spiral around and come back to you until it is dealt with. “Life always throws curved balls as us doesn’t it and it is how we catch them and run with them that shows how far we have come and how far we have yet to go.” Book 2 of Set By The Ancients” by Phoebe and Paul Hoogendyk.

Your past is no-one else business unless it affects them directly. If you have dealt with it and moved on it will not be an issue for you. Then it really is up to the other person to do the same.

In ancient times all decisions were considered for 7 generations past and future, but in a positive way. They looked at the effect that the decisions being made would have on the future by looking at how it may have effected the past.

In Australian original beliefs only the lessons learnt are brought through from the past in tribal law/lore. Once something was dealt with it was over, forgiven and done with and life went forward.

Modern society seems to have a penchant for racking people over their past mistakes and all the drama that went with it. We seem to enjoy reliving all the pain and I believe it has a lot to do with our religious beliefs and understandings. Not the very ancient beliefs that were not based on religion and being born sinners but being born a part of creation and all that is.

For the Ancient peoples, time was cyclical and did not go in a straight line so the past would come back around, not as I said to go all dramatic with again but to look at the lessons learnt and how they could be taken further on that learning.

So how do we deal with the past when it comes back into our lives? Simplify your reaction to it by letting go of what ever it was because no matter what it happened and you cannot undo it. Have the courage to face it and be honest with yourself and everyone else involved. It really is only the ego that cannot face it…you can…the honest, open you can face it and dealt with it and move on. You can only ever deal with it from your understanding of what happened. Learn from your mistakes, that’s why we make them and it is what the past is good for…so we don’t do it again. If it is coming back around constantly then there is still work to be done so see it as an opportunity to grow and perhaps take others with you on that journey, for as you grow and learn so can those around you. Change it into a journey not a big drama and understand that how you react to the situation is how people will react to you. If they see you have moved on then perhaps they will too.

Often for myself when something comes back around then I will now say “oh goody here we go again” for I know I have grown and I find it interesting to watch how I will now deal with and what I will learn from this time around.

As always have courage and be kind to yourself. Things are never as bad as they seem and if they are they too shall pass and the next time you will be ready and willing to face it, dealt with it and welcome the learning with open heart and mind.

Remember to follow your heart and live your dreams.
